Teen Rebellion is a common theme throughout movies, literature, and song lyrics. Teen rebellion is a normal action through teen years. Teen rebellion is caused by wanting to prove a point and a craving for freedom. Teens are growing into adults and tend to crave freedom. In Shakespeare's “Romeo and Juliet” both Romeo and Juliet rebel against their families. The two families of Romeo and Juliet are the bitterest enemies and only care for murdering the other family. Romeo of the Montagues and Juliet of the Capulets is now falling in love with each other, but know that the war between families will be a complication to their love. In this movie the young Hawaiian girl Moana rebels against her father’s (who is also the island chief) rule which states the water is forbidden and she is not allowed in it. In the text it states “The ocean calls out to her, but her family prevents her from ever venturing out beyond the reef, for the fear of losing her. As Moana grows up, she is told that a life of being the village’s chieftain awaits her. But her heart is set on venturing out into the ocean...Along with her pet chicken HeiHei, she sets out on the ocean to search for Maui” (Moana). Rapunzel has been trapped in her tower for all her life. When Rapunzel was a baby she had been kidnapped from her parents by an old woman named Gothel and trapped in a tower. Mother Gothel tells Rapunzel to never leave the tower. In the text it states, “The beautiful Rapunzel has been in the tower her entire life, and she is curious about the outside world. One day, the bandit Flynn Ryder scales the tower and is taken captive by Rapunzel. Rapunzel strikes a deal with the charming thief to act as her guide to travel to the place where the floating lights come from that she has seen every year on her birthday. Rapunzel is about to have the most exciting and magnificent journey of her life” (Tangled). This means that Rapunzel breaks the rule Mother Gothel had set, which is for Rapunzel to never leave the tower.
