Lead By Example Someone once said, be the role model you needed when you were younger. Roger, a boy from the story Thank You Ma’am by Langston Hughes is presented with a problem and he tries to solve it by doing the wrong thing. Luella an elder woman from the story takes Roger in and shows him the right way of life. Luella uses the arm kind part of her heart and instead of punishing Roger, she becomes a teacher and teaches him right from wrong. Luella at first sight probably does not look like the nicest person in the world, but on the inside she is warm and she cares about everyone. Luella is living alone by herself and you can tell she is a very independent woman and is very strong by herself. She was most likely in the same situation as Roger was when she was younger. She probably made the same mistake he made but she has learned from her mistake and she is now teaching Roger the right thing to do. …show more content…

Roger wanted new suede shoes but, he could not afford them. Roger thought the best way to get the money for the shoes was to steal it from someone helpless. Roger most likely did not have anyone in his life to teach him the right way to earn money or do things the right way. He was never taught right. Roger needs a role model in his life someone to teach him right from wrong. Someone who can show him the ropes, someone who he can trust and someone who will trust him. That is where Ms. Bates steps in. She is prepared to teach him and trust him even tho he just almost robbed
