, this shows Mrs.Jones is a mother who guides Roger to be a good on page 3. Mrs.Jones told a story about herself being irresponsible, ¨I were young once and I wanted things I could not get.¨(pg 6). Another quote states, “I have done things, too, which I would not tell you, son--neither tell god, if he didn’t already know. ”(pg 5)
After talking to my group about the book Thank You Ma’am by: Langston Hughes, we realized that Mrs. Jones is very helpful. We think Mrs.jones is giving and teaches him good life lesson that are helpful in life. The first reason why I think Mrs. jones is helpful is because she is giving. Marcus Garvey has been an inspiration and a motivation to me as I look towards a secondary education. Mr. Garvey was a political leader in Jamaica. This enabled him to be a part of a growing force of activist that aided African Americans in establishing communities. He was also a journalist, publisher, entrepreneur, and founder of the Black Star Line which was a shipping and passenger line that was instrumental in helping Africans return to their ancestral lands (Encyclopædia Britannica Online Marcus Garvey profile). Mr. Garvey continues to inspire me today.
“Thank You M’am” Essay Response In the story “Thank You M’am” by Langston Hughes, the boy Roger, seems to be lonely. The story is about a boy named Roger who tries to steal Mrs. Jones purse, she takes him to her house and takes care of him. Roger could be described as lonely because he has nobody home at his home, he is very respectful of Mrs. Jones, and he tries to steal.
In his story, ‘’Thank You, Ma'am’’, Langston Hughes tells the story of two characters who face poverty, and tough times. Roger is a boy who simply wanted shoes, but just couldn’t afford them. The only thing Roger can do is steal from an innocent lady name Ms. Washington. In an unexpected twist Ms. Washington doesn’t turn Roger into the police, but she has him over for dinner, and gives him ten dollars. Langston Hughes celebrates humanity by showing that even the poorest of us can display generosity, and make a change in the world.
In conclusion, Mrs. Jones’s intelligent character contributes to leading Roger down a better path for
Mrs. Jones, “...simply turned around and kicked…,” the boy. She also forcefully had the boy, “... pick up my pocketbook, boy and give it here…” In addition to that, the woman was very threatening. For example, Mrs. Jones, told the boy that he would remember her once she was “through with,” him. These parts are significant because it portrays a big part of Mrs. Jones’ personality.
A central theme in the short story “Thank you Ma 'am” by Langston Hughes is a little kindness goes a long way. One act of kindness can change a person’s life forever. Her unnecessary kindness made a major impact on Roger and changes him. As the story progresses, we see that Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones shows empathy and kindness for Roger. That kindness appears to pass onto Roger near the end of the story.
This shows his gratefulness because Mrs. Jones has already done so much and is cooking him a meal and giving him money and guidance, and he wants to see if she may need anything from him in return, like a physical item such as milk, to make it better and even. The second reason Roger is grateful is because he uses his manners and tells Mrs. Jones thank you. After getting a meal and some money, “The boy wanted to say something else other than ‘Thank you, m’am’ to Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones, but he couldn’t do so. He barely managed to say ‘Thank you’ before she shut the door” reveals Roger’s internal struggle and a big heart to do something more. (Hughes 3).
Do we need to take care of each other? Taking care of each other or being brother's keeper is right things that we should do, so it is essential for people to help one another. Being brother's keeper such as help for another, and take care of another may change others lives, and it would give some hope to another. Being brother's keeper is the right things that we should do, because we can make a better situation by being brother's keeper.
Women of Many Personalities Mrs.Luella Bate Washington Jones is a very interesting person with many personalities in the short story Thanks you Ma'am written by Langston Hughes. She has a bossy side where she snaps quite frequently at Roger. Roger is dragged to her house in a head-lock. If Mrs.Luella Bates Washington Jones was scared of Roger she would have given him a lesson with her fists.
Langston Hughes short story “Thank you Ma’am” is about a boy named Roger who tries to rob an older woman named Mrs.Jones. He tries to rob her $10 for some new blue suede shoes. When Roger tries to rob Mrs.Jones she grabs him by his shirt and takes him back to her house to get him cleaned up and fed. When They get to Mrs.Jones house, she goes to her kitchen to make some food while Roger is washing his face, Roger has a chance to run while Mrs. Jones is distracted but he doesn't, he stays. Roger came to sit down with Mrs. Jones and she talks about her past life and her life now but she does not ask him about his family or about her life because she did not want to embarrass him.
“When I get through with you, sir, you are going to remember Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones,” the large lady said fiercely. In the edge of your seat story, “Thank You Ma’am,” by Langston Hughes, the main character of the story is very entertaining with every action that she takes. The main event that had happened in the story is, a boy (Rodger) wanted to get blue suede shoes and he didn’t have enough money, so he tried to steal Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones purse, and that was a bad choice. After that, she caught him with a strong, bold arm and took him to her house. While there, she talks with the boy and feeds him.
It is also, by forgiving Roger, that Mrs. Jones helps him open his eyes to the idea of choice. The combination of her sternness and compassion affects Roger tremendously.
