The California Department of Education (CDE) 5th grade curriculum and Common Core State Standards (CCSS) are designed to outline what students should know and comprehend by the end of the 5th grade school year. Each discipline has a brief overview of what the fourth grader should know before entering the next grade level, along with a description of 5th grade standards for each discipline. The curriculum makes up nine sections that covers the content, communication style, ways to support struggling readers and support for English learners. The summative assessment results for English Language Arts (ELA) showed 46.08% of the student population which is close to half exceeded or met the ELA standards. The summative assessment results for Mathematics showed 33.38% of the student population met or exceeded the mathematics standards. The performance trends for 5th graders in the 2021-22 school year shows 47.09% ELA and 31.56% inMathematical standards.

An in-depth analysis for 5th graders regarding their achievement level in ELA was categorized into four parts: reading,writing,listening and research /inquiry.
