Eythan Gilmore Mrs. Botts CA 3 R-1 15 December, 2017 Betting on Sports In discussions of betting and gambling in today’s world, one controversial issue has been betting on sports. On the one hand, many Americans argue that betting on sports make watching the game more enjoyable and exciting. Others say there are other ways to enjoy sports and get involved. In my view, betting on sports in the United States should not be legal because it could force the players and coaches to play differently, it could be harmful to gamblers, and it could make sports more complicated. Following my first reason that it could force the players and coaches to play differently, there have already been cases where coaches and players have changed their playing style for money. Some players have been accused of losing a game on purpose for money, and some coaches have been accused of losing a game, and also targeting other teams’ players, for money and bonuses. Although most players and coaches wouldn’t lose a game on purpose for money, hopefully, there could be additional stress on the player or coach if they know there is high stakes on the game they are playing in. Betting on sports could be fun, but also devastating if you don’t know how to control it. Gambling is easy to get addicted to and hard to stop, and once you get addicted, it seem like the only way out of it, is to keep doing it. Not only could you lose lots of money, you could also lose your belongings. Once there is not money to bet with, you start selling and betting on your belongings, and once you have nothing left, then what?
