Capital punishment is the legal authorized killing of a person as punishment for a crime. The issue of the death penalty has been a controversial problem for a long time. 32 states currently allow the death penalty and the rest have outlawed it (?Death Penalty Statistics?). From my research I am able to prove the death penalty is wrong and doesn?t really benefit anyone. First I will tell you about the death penalty and why it?s a problem. Next I?ll tell you how we can change things and lastly what the result will be if we try to change things. Using the death penalty against criminals is wrong for many reasons. First of all because sometimes there?s no way to be 100% sure if

You may think they got what they deserved but is punishing murder with more murder really a good solution? Also what happens if there?s a problem with the execution? The execution methods aren?t guaranteed to work and in the cases they don?t it makes for a gruesome situation like in the case of a man named John Evans. In 1983 John was sentenced to death by electrocution, the electric chair. After the 1st jolt of electricity sparks and flames exploded from the electrode strapped to his leg. Especially since he was alive through most of …show more content…
Politics, quality or lawyers and the place where a crime is committed are usually what decides whether the death penalty is used of not. Out of the 22,000 homicides committed every year about 100 people or less are sentenced to death (?Facts?). Even though the death penalty is flawed there are still people who agree it should still be used. Some people believe it deters crime. It?s fair to think that but studies show having the death penalty as a form of punishment doesn?t deter crime at all. In fact states with the death penalty have higher rates of murder (?The Case Against the Death Penalty?). The problems with the death penalty are very important because innocent people are being sentenced to death, the executions themselves can be and have been very gruesome and getting sentenced to death depends more on the quality of lawyers a person can afford rather than the crime they committed. If this issue is not solved the injustice will continue
