One of the big controversies in today’s sport is whether or not the enhancing of technology is acceptable or not. Sports and technology own their own are a big thing in America, and there are a few pros and cons when you are combining the two. Technology, in the past few decades, has been used with the best intentions. It was incorporated in sports to try to assist the referees and fans with refereeing the games and for a better game-watching experience. As we all know as society advances we have to too but the argument lies on whether or not it is taking away from sports as a whole. From personal experience it’s safe to say that many fans can appreciate the technology as it relates to television due to many game factors including ticket prices, weather/climate, and location. With the instant replay, the referee’s might not have all of the angles to see the play in its entirety. Also with the instant replay, it could cost a team a championship if the call is incorrect. The instant also slows down the game, which could also upset the fans. Instant replay can cause a lot of controversy in a game, if the refs don’t agree or If the fans think they saw different things. It is not used the same way in each sport, which could cause some confusion. Another con of using technology in sports, is how fast news can spread. When a player gets in trouble with the law everybody knows about it because of the media and technology. The new technologies has also made it easier for players to mask performance enhancing drugs such as steroids. Lastly, a con of technology in sports is that more people might want to watch the game at home than go to the game arena, field, or stadium.
