The classic fairytale is that parents have a typically developed, healthy child who grows up to be perfect. However, reality is not that simple; life can be challening Parents of these children are constantly making accommodations to suit their child's needs, as well as, facing many stressful situations caused by their child’s actions. Christopher’s father often becomes extremely distressed because of the behaviours that Christopher exhibits. After Christopher was arrested for assaulting a police officer, his “[f]ather was sitting on the sofa watching snooker on the television and drinking scotch. There were tears coming out of his eyes.” This occurs because the father feels very frustrated because Christopher cannot always pick up on social cues, and often cannot tell the difference between right and wrong. Christopher will often act out and engage in inappropriate behaviours because he cannot always appropriately gauge a situation. He gets angry and frustrated. These behaviours can create a tremendous amount of stress for Christopher's father, as he recognizes the struggles that Christopher faces, and can’t always help him. Similarly, Christopher's mom faces many stressful situations as well. For instance, Christopher crouches down and groans loudly in the mall, resulting in his mother becoming very frustrated and impatient with him. She appears very stressed after this situation because she feels like she is responsible for his actions, causing her to breakdown and cry. It can be extremely difficult for a parent to face these struggles everyday, as Christopher's mother does.
