This week, I was able to delve into the complexities of real, personal, and intellectual property. I read Chapters Eight and Nine of The Legal and Ethical Environment of Business by Lau and Johnson, which gave me a comprehensive understanding of these concepts. In Chapter Eight, I learned about real property, which refers to land, buildings, and other permanent structures, and personal property, which refers to movable objects such as jewelry, furniture, and other personal belongings. I found this distinction particularly useful in understanding the different forms of property and how the law governs them.
I would describe business ethics as what is right and wrong in the long view related to the purpose of the organization. The standard will be defining what is good for the organization. Business ethics are most likely driven by the financial success of the organization. To thrive long term, the organization’s ethics should align with the laws that govern business practices. Moral Philosophy Defined Moral philosophy can be defined as a set of principles, or rules, which people use to decide what is right or wrong. These principles, rules, or philosophies have a set of guidelines for resolving conflicts within an organization and ways to optimizing the mutual benefit of people working or existing in a social group . It is presumed that most business stakeholders(ie., employers, employee, investors etc.) are generally guided by moral philosophies as they formulate business strategies and resolve specific ethical issues. I am interested in topic due to how US businesses interact within countries whose standards are viewed as unethical for businesses operating in the United States.
