The story that I told was a Chinese fable called The Frog Who Lived in a Well. I believe that this story is perfect for young students in elementary school because it is engaging and the story aligns with some of the Common Core State Standards for the first and second grade. For example, like many fables, this story has a moral. In the Common Core State Standards for both first and second grade it specifies that the students need to understand the lesson and important details in the story (National Governors Association Center for Best Practices, ELA, 2010). In the Common Core State Standards, one of the standards specifies the importance of students having the opportunity to learn about the new language that might appear in the story (National Governors Association Center for Best Practices, ELA, Reading: Language, 2010). The language in this story is appropriate for younger students because the majority of the words used to tell the story are clear and age appropriate. If in fact, there are new words that the students do not know, then it is very important for the storyteller to introduce those words in an age-appropriate way. Another reason that this story is great for this age group is that there are many places throughout the story where the audience can add to the story. The storyteller could do this by asking them to create a motion during a certain word or phrase that is repeated throughout the story. This is great, especially for younger students because it will allow them to feel like they are helping to tell the
