In the book The Giver, there seemed to be an abundant amount of differences from The Giver the movie. The author of the book is Lois Lowry and the director of the movie is Phillip Noyce. All of the differences that they made in the movie tied together and made it a great movie. Three of the major differences would most likely have to be Jonas, the journey at the end and some of the memories.
In the book Jonas was just a 12 year old boy who always follows the rules and he never lied. In the movie, Jonas was about 18 and he did not lie, but seemed more anxious to do the adventurous things. With the rules that he received for being the Receiver of Memory he was not aloud to talk about his training and he was allowed to lie, which was against the community rules. The Giver was an old man that just looked and acted tired just as they explained him to be in the book. One of the differences is how he transferred the memories. In the book the memories were transferred by Jonas lying on his back and The Giver would put his hands on his back and they would go through. In the movie The Giver would hold Jonas’ hands in order for Jonas to receive them. The memory of the sled on the hill with snow was the same except at the end of that memory Jonas could see the house and the family celebrating the holiday. In the book The Giver waited a little while to show him that. Also, in the book The Giver gave Jonas the memory of the sun and then he showed him sunburns, in the movie that was never shown. The music was a big part in both, the book and the movie. Although, in the book Jonas was told about the music but did not officially hear it until the very end.
