“Instead of trying to make your life perfect give yourself the freedom to make it an adventure, and go every upward,” Drew Houston once said. I believe, as Drew once did, or still does, that freedom is a special thing that one must live and strive for. In addition, I do not believe that it is worth giving up my love I have for people, the beautiful colors I see, and the choice to make my own future to live in, for a somewhat perfect world. I believe there are many differences in the novel, The Giver, and our own system of living in the US. Three of these differences, would be the meaning of family, love, and the system of graduation. The first reason why I believe that giving up my freedom in exchange for a perfect world, is the complete difference of the Family Unit. Jonas says, “Two children-one male, one female-to each family unit. It was written very clearly in the rules (Lowry 11).” This quote shows how Jonas explains to the reader(s) how the community's rules about the family works. Jonas explains to the reader(s), that “I feel frightened, not knowing exactly what my assignment will be. I just hope it will be worthwhile during my time in the community (Lowry).” This is one of the most crucial reasons why I do not wish to give up my freedom to live in a perfect world. Jonas and his peers, in the “Group of Twelves,” are given an assignment or job, that they will be employed at throughout their time at the community. In our society, we are given the choice to make our own path, and to choose our own occupation to be “happy” at, while also working hard and making a profit out of doing it. This is a main deal-breaker, in why I believe it is not worth giving our freedom away so willingly in living in the perfect
