Big Jay The Jayhawks basketball team has not had an overall losing record since 1908. Big Jay is the Kansas Jayhawks’ mascot and has been since the 1960s. Big Jay is a great mascot that deserves to be recognized for everything that he does. Big Jay should be nominated into the Mascot Hall of Fame because He has a fun and unique design, he demonstrates a major impact on their sports teams, he has lots of performances that are considered memorable and groundbreaking, and he makes an impact on the community. Big Jay should be nominated into the Mascot Hall of Fame because mascots in the hall of fame have a design that is fun, unique, and memorable. Big Jay has an exclusive design. He has bright and fun colors including crimson and blue. It is also very unique.The Jayhawk’s name is a mixture of both the blue jay, known for it’s way of stealing from other nests, and the sparrow hawk which is a stealthy hunter. “The message here: Don't turn your back on this bird” (The University of Kansas). Big Jay is also memorable because he takes us back to 1850s were Kansas and Missouri battled with slavery. The Jayhawk mascot makes the kids happy and allow them to have fun when they are watching the basketball games, volleyball games, football games and the cheer team. Mascots help cheer on the team and dance around to make it fun for many people. They play jokes to make people laugh and enjoy themselves at the game. Mascots can visit schools and talk about their experience of being a mascot. Big Jay passes out t-shirts and posters to everyone in the crowd.
