Johnny stabbed Bob to save Ponyboy from suffocating underneath the water with Two-Bit’s switchblade. Before Johnny died, he wrote Ponyboy a note about certain things like to “Tell Dallas to watch a sunset” because “There’s still good in the world.” Johnny wants Dallas to know there is still good in the world because he is concerned for him, Dallas was unstable and when he died, it even says “I knew it was what Dally wanted.” Johnny was concerned for Dallas because they were close and didn’t want him to die.
