Independent learning helps in self discovery. Self discovery is essential in student life particularly while pursuing higher education as it organized the students learning. It even helps students to set goals towards improvements that need to be made. Independent learning is not necessarily for students to work in his or her own at all times (The higher Education Academy, 2013). Thus the ideas of independent learning must be encouraged more in student life as students will have more flexible in time to study and can catch up on other works and it even save teachers time. Students gains more knowledge when they study in the area of their interest as well as it improves communication skills and writing. Therefore independent learning is important in developing organizational skills. Thus students can self direct themselves and able to find their own way and they will value their own work to compare themselves with their friends that are on same level as them (Michie, 2013).
