It has become known that science education has not been a priority in elementary schools for quite some time. Since, passing No Child Left Behind a narrowed spotlight has focused on solely on English language and mathematics. The pressure of the accountability systems in place due to the NCLB has narrowed the spotlight to a fine point. This initiative has left little to no time for science to taught throughout elementary schools.
The definition of equity in education is having the same expectation or goal for all students. There is a need to bring equity into elementary classroom that provide science for every child in all elementary schools. The stage has been set by The Next Generation Science Standards. It is beneficial for all students to gain a strong science background. The goal of the National Science Education Standards (1996) is to create scientifically literate students. Scientifically literate students not only have a better understanding of science subjects, but also a better understanding of the nature of science, the role of science in their personal life , society and global issues. over all a scientifically literate society has a better understanding of the world around them. It has been shown that to thrive in the future a society needs to develop a society rich in scientific literacy, after all science the technology are a key to economic advantages and keeps societies on the forefront of innovations. Sixty-two percent believe making science a higher priority will attract industry to their state and provide a gateway to higher paying jobs- .
