The first production of the Model T was produced on August 12, 1908. On May 26, 1927, the 15 millionth Model T rolled off the assembly line at Ford's factory in Michigan. Today there are still fords being produced. This changed the Progressive Era, because the car became a demand and became powerful in the industrial world.
Industrialist, leader in innovation, and founder of Ford Motor Company, Henry Ford was the creator of the first moving assembly line. He greatly impacted the 20th Century, and transformed the automobile from a new money luxury to a modern and practical convenience. His Model T was the first vehicle that middle-class Americans were able to afford. The invention of the Model T would greatly change the society and revolutionize conveniences and transportation.
1920s The Ford Model T, changed Americans in the way they live, work and travel. Henry Ford’s advancements in assembly-line automobiles manufacturing made the Model T the first affordable car for a majority of Americans. For the first time owning a car became a reality for average American workers, and not just the wealthy. More than 15 million Model Ts were built in Detroit and Highland Park, Michigan, and they were also assembled at a Ford plant in Manchester, England.
Henry Ford's Model T was a very powerful and unique innovation in the United States during this time period. This invention was really the first car. Its impact on the United States was immense, and it helped so many people that were able to afford this car. What it did was allowed for a much faster source of transportation for the American citizes. Instead of having to take a train everywhere it allowed for people to go short distances like from work and back home.
This attracted Ford a lot of attention from investors, who were willing to fund the projects for the next seven years, and that is where he founded his own company which he called ‘The Detroit Automobile Company’, later named ‘The Henry Ford Company’ in 1899. Over the course of three years, his investors grew impatient with Ford, as he was busy perfecting his own designs until he eventually left to form his own company yet again, called ‘The Ford Motor Company’. Ford wanted his vehicles to be perfect for the consumer, and after a month of working in his new company, he finished his newest creation, known as a ‘Model-A’. The factory that made these cars were operating at a snail’s pace, only producing a handful of cars a day. This led Ford to try and invent new ways to make the process of building cars much quicker and cheaper, so that it can be bought by the consumer at a reasonable price by means of producing so many of them, and so, the ‘Model-T’ was invented, which was an extremely successful
The man behind the Model T was known as Henry Ford. Henry Ford opened at Highland Park, Michigan, in 1913 to manufacture the Model T cars marked only the first step toward full mass production and the beginning of America’s worldwide industrial supremacy (Brands, 581). Ford Motor Company stated that Henry, “wanted the Model T to be affordable, simple to operate, and durable.” He did exactly so. The Model T is Ford’s universal car that put the world on wheels.
Change Throughout The Progressive Era Although Henry Ford did not invent the world’s first automobile, he managed to create a new popular market at the start of the 20th century. The Ford Motor Company, established in 1905, introduced the Model T car in 1909. A total of 15 million cars had been sold by mid-1927, the year they were discontinued in order to introduce the new later version. The Model T was so successful mainly because it appealed to the mass market; the cars were both reliable, and easy to maintain (Ford Motor Company).
All Ford could think about was his vision for manufacturing cars and being the first to sell such a luxurious product at a low price for all the middle class. He wanted his business to thrive better than anyone else's and to create a product that would continuously be used. “Ford became renowned for his revolutionary vision: the manufacture of an inexpensive automobile made by skilled workers who earn steady wages.” (biography.com editors). The model T was his best creation.
A Model-A of Henry Ford by 1900’s In the 1920s the automobile/motorcar, came out to represent a great part of the American dream, offering independence and adventure to its owners. During that period, the price of cars fell dramatically, so that the people could afford them. That was a smart tactic for many car industries, because due to the previous high prices, only the rich were able to afford one. They could be sold to a mass market because they could be made more cheaply, using assembly line methods.
As we neared the mid to later 1920s, automobiles became both more widely available and cheaper for people to buy. This was mostly due to how the production process of these cars were being sped up and they kept figuring out ways to make them cheaper and cheaper. During this time, the most common automobile families had was the Model T Ford even though there were tons of different cars on the market. The majority of people had this as it was the cheapest, due to how Henry Ford was able to create a more efficient product assembly line in comparison to all of his competitors. His price for the Model T started out at $850, but eventually went down to only $300 towards the mid 1920s.
Many of the inventions created during the 20s like the car industry with Ford’s Model T, the use of radios everywhere, and even the impact new kitchen appliances had on women shaped American culture and the way Americans live today. Ford’s creation of The Model T was the world’s first universal car that got America driving everywhere. This model was first invented in 1908 by Henry Ford and manufactured by the Ford Motor Company. The Model T was one of the very first mass-production vehicles because Ford wanted his cars to be bought by all of America.
Henry Ford made American history when he released the model T. He put the whole world on wheels. It was a simple, durable, and most importantly a affordable car. Ford sold 15 million model T’s, making it the best selling vehicle of its era. He revolutionized the modern assembly line and made cars as we know them today.
And then, another article that introduced a brief history of Ford said that “With the introduction of the Model T in 1908, Ford succeeded in his mission to produce an affordable, efficient and reliable automobile for everyone: within a decade, nearly half the cars in America were Model Ts” (Jury, 2012).
Although Henry Ford began the Ford Motor Company in 1903, it was not until 1908 that his business began to grow and become successful. In 1908 Ford first released the Model T automobile at a price of $825.00. He was able to offer the vehicle at such a low price because in the process of producing the Model T he also developed and perfected the moving assembly line. This reduced the assembly time by over fifty percent, which in turn reduced the price of the automobile. The Ford Motor Company has continued to grow and after over a century of being in business it is now worth around $199 billion.
But by this time Ford had a bigger vision for a better affordable vehicle. Ford began working closely with selected employees and they developed the Model T, introduced on October 1, 1908. The Model T exhibited simplicity and quality. Model T was a great success.
