MDG In the short story, “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, Rainsford is on a boat out in the middle of the sea with his friend Whitney that are going on a hunting trip together. While there out a storm comes and Rainsford is smoking a pipe and it falls out of his hand and he leans over and tries to grab it, but instead they hit a rough patch and ends up and falling in the deep shivering sea. Rainsford struggles to stay afloat, he watches as the boat slowly disappears until he can't see it at all. Rainsford ends up and finding himself on a little island where he meets General Zaroff.
There are some stories that seem to drag on and on because of their extremely descriptive writing. There are others that fly by in an instant but leave the reader more confused than when he started. Then there are stories that use the perfect balance of description and suspense so that they enhance the story and each other. “The Most Dangerous Game” written by Richard Connell is an excellent example of this crucial yet delicate balance. "The Most Dangerous Game" opens with a conversation between, Whitney and Rainsford. Both are on a boat headed to Rio, Brazil. Both men are hunting enthusiasts. They discuss the ability of an animal to understand the mechanics of hunting. Rainsford believes that animals are unable of feeling or understanding any human emotions.
Zaroff is a static character. When Zaroff realizes that he is bored of hunting animals he finds a new animal to hunt. Once he found what he wanted to hunt he, bought the island that he lives on. From there he started to hunt humans. He got the humans by trapping their ship with " giant rocks with razor edges crouch like a sea monster with wide-open jaws" (226).
