Charles Foster Kane, who was he really? By Thompson ... (1941) Charles Kane was a man that some of us hated or some us loved. He was a mysterious man, we know nothing of him, however we have heard of him. From friends, family, or especially in the newspaper, but who was he really?
In the book, The Hunger Games, one of the main events is when Katniss volunteers for her sister, Prim, to participate in the annual Hunger Games. After reading this event, I was very surprised. I noticed that Katniss surprised herself by saying she would volunteer, but then quickly recovered once she remembered that the reaping would be shown on television. “…this is upsetting me and I don’t want to cry. When they televise the replay of the reapings tonight, everyone will make note of my tears, and I’ll be marked as an easy target.
Katniss’s father died in a mine explosion; however, before he died he was teaching Katniss how to shoot a bow and a arrow. Katniss is now using this skill to hunt in the woods (which is forbidden and you can be punished by death) to supply for her family. This shows that Katniss is very brave. Katniss loves her sister Prim every much, in fact so much that Prim was chosen to go play in the annual Hunger Games to represent District 12 and Katniss was so brave and bold she volunteered herself because she knew Prim would not survive a second in the Hungers Games.
Suzanne Collins applies the hero’s journey to her novel to demonstrate Katniss’ experience in The Hunger Games. One step in act one that Katniss Everdeen follows in the hero’s journey is when she accepts the call to adventure by volunteering as tribute for her sister Prim. Katniss couldn’t bear to see Prim get chosen as tribute at the reaping for the Hunger games, so she decided to volunteer herself in replacement: “Effie Trinket crosses back to the podium, smoothes the slip of paper and reads out the name in a clear voice. And it’s not me. It’s
The Hunger Games Katniss Everdeen is a dynamic 16 year old girl character in the novel The Hunger Games, out of 13 districts she lives in panem in district 12 with her mother and little sister. What makes katniss a dynamic character is her loving, caring, and brave characteristics throughout the book. katniss is a loving character who loves her family and others and did whatever it took to keep them well.katniss knew she was strong and would do better than everyone else from district 12.“I could be shot on the daily basis for hunting, but the appetites of those in charge protect me” (p.17)For the love Katniss have, she sacrifices her life for the ones she love.katniss doesn't forget the good things that happened in her life.:”kind people have a way of working their way inside me and rooting there”. (p.49)katniss take in good things and it stays inside her, like the time when peeta gave her some bread when she was hungry, she remembered that moment for years.
Katniss also shows signs of being of a hero when she takes her little sister Prim, place in the Hunger games. An Example of Katniss hunting for her family would be, “District 12. Where you starve to death in safety.” (6) This shows that Katniss knows that District 12 is not a friendly place and a hungry area. An example for Katniss sacrificing herself for her sister is “Prim!”...
Katniss Everdeen is the protagonist of Suzanne Collin’s Hunger Games book and film series. In the dystopian landscape in which the book is set, children between the ages of twelve and eighteen must register themselves for a random selection for a fight to the death. Even from the beginning, Katniss was breaking societal expectations; one example of which being when she volunteered when her younger sister Primrose was selected. Being from such a poor district, Katniss was not expected to do well in training for the games, but she pulled a very high score when she shot an arrow towards the game-makers. No one expected Katniss to be so strong and resilient, but her own agenda was just getting home to her family.
She had a younger sister named Primrose Everdeen who was chosen to be part of the reaping which is an event where tributes get chosen to be a part of The Hunger Games. Katniss was scared knowing that Prim’s life was on the line. To protect her sister, she took the courage to volunteer
Imagine being a teenage girl living in poverty, with a younger sister and mother to take care of. Katniss, from The Hunger Games, is this girl. She spends her days hunting and working to provide for her family. Her only friend is a guy named Gale, whom is her hunting partner. When Katniss’ sister is chosen for the Hunger Games, a death match between kids of each district, Katniss has to volunteer in her place.
In the novel, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins an important decision is when Katniss Everdeen volunteers for her younger sister Primrose Everdeen. The decision Katniss made changed her character as she came back to home to district 12 a public hero. When she got home she was struggling from post traumatic stress. Katniss was also in the middle of a love triangle with Peeta, the male tribute from district 12 and her friend and hunting partner from home, Gale.
Primrose is only 12. She would not have the skill to survive The Hunger Games. At the point when Prim's name is called, Katniss instantly volunteers to replace her position as a tribute from District 12 to the Hunger
Katniss Everdeen is one of the main characters of the book. She lives with her mother and sister Prim, who she loves, cares for, and practically raises. Katniss hunts many small animals close to the border of the district in a forest in order to provide food for her family- hunting is illegal in Panem- and she learned these hunting skills from her best friend Gale. When the annual choosing of the Hunger Games comes, Prim’s name is chosen and Katniss volunteers to be a tribute instead of Prim and saves her sister’s life; this shows a sense of self-sacrifice.
I gasp. “I volunteer as a tribute!” (Collins 23). Katniss instinctively raises her hand to volunteer without thinking. “There's some confusion on the stage.
Prim was one slip in a thousand…’I volunteer!’ I gasp. ‘I volunteer as tribute!’... In some districts, in which winning the reaping is a great honor, people are eager to risk their lives, The volunteering is complicated. But in District 12, where the word tribute is pretty much synonymous with the word corpse, volunteers are all but extinct.”
The overarching theme of Suzanne Collins’ novel, The Hunger Games, is that love can make people forget their basic survival instincts as shown by Katniss’ willingness to put herself in peril to save her loved ones such as Primrose Everdeen, Peeta Mellark, and the girl from district eleven Rue. Love 's effect on a person 's survival instincts is first demonstrated by Katniss ' love for her younger sister, Primrose (Prim). In The Hunger Games, every year the districts hold a reaping to choose the tributes that go to the games. Prim gets called at the reaping and Katniss volunteers for her. In paragraph six chapter two of the novel it states “With one sweep of my arm, I push her behind me. ‘I volunteer!’
