In the book entitled “The New One Minute Manager”, important lessons were established to teach the new generation. With Ken Blanchard and Spencer Johnson’s ability to make a concise and an easy-to read book, they were able to highlight the three very practical secrets that one should know in handling and leading people and explained why these are very effective. The book was published on 1981. It is written by Ken Blanchard and Spencer Johnson. Ken Blanchard is a well-known writer, speaker, and a business consultant. He was born in New Jersey but raised in New York. His school background includes a master’s degree in Colgate University and bachelor’s and doctorate degree in Cornell University. The manager and the staff should agree on goals. These goals should be written in a separate sheet. With this, the staff will know what they are expected to do. The second one is the “one minute praising”. This can be achieved if the staff was able to show the progress on his work. This does not only help the manager but is also helpful in giving the staff a recognition for the job he has done. However, when one was not able to achieve his work, he/she should be reprimanded. This will be the third secret, “one minute reprimand”. If the right things was given and it is still not done correctly, then it is only proper that staff will receive a rebuke. The book is not only limited to managers and staff or people in workplaces but also in school, organizations, institutions, etc. The book’s strongest point is its ability to highlight the importance of communication. Communication is not just only an important aspect inside the workplace but also to other places. The book talks about communication and leadership which are two important characteristics of a team or group. It is also good that the book was easy to read and used a story to tell the three secrets or the three important management skills. However, the book was not able to give right steps in achieving the three secrets. It became the book’s weakest point. Its incapability to directly list down the procedure to possible steps that a manager should do can lead to an unsuccessful results. The three secrets were established and explained why it would work and how it will work is not given by the authors. Hence, the book can be improved by adding the right procedure and adding the more story from the man who is looking for the great example of manager. It can also be more creative if the book can be made into comics with colors and
