Unlike Physical Therapy who people instantly identify as a field that get people walking. . Another problem during the accreditation of Ayres work is she decided to use sensory integration as an isolated anomaly, rather than embedding it entirely in the context of Occupational therapy. Ayres main goals of her work was more based on what Occupational Therapy alone, can achieve, such as individuals can follow routines that are involved in daily life like, eating, sleeping getting ready, etc. Reseatchers trying to replicate the treatment developed a goal attainment scale, to help measure the effectiveness of studies. This was a breakthrough, allowing goals for the families and individuals and comparison across the wide array of people using this method.

Introduction Occupational therapists are client-centred health professionals who engage people to do activities that they like to do (Occupational Therapy Australia, 2017). Therefore, understanding the relationships between person, environment and occupation is important. To apply theories into practice, an interview was conducted with an interviewee, Fiona who is a third-year nursing student at the University of Sydney. This report includes the analysis of the occupational performance of Fiona as a nursing student in placements. The gathered information about her occupational performance and the interactions between person, environment and occupation are analysis by using the Occupational Performance Model (Australia) (Chapparo, Ranka &Nott,
Core focus: The CMOP-E conceptualises occupational performance and engagement as the dynamic interaction of the person, occupation and environment. It proposes that occupational therapy practice requires both client-centred practice and enablement (Townsend & Polatajko, 2007). Presented in figure 1 is the three-tier system of person, occupation and environment, with person at the core to conceptualise the client-centred approach to therapy. Occupation is represented as the link that connects person and environment; and environment is considered broadly, and includes the cultural, institutional, physical, and social elements that lie outside of individuals, which affords occupational possibilities (CAOT, 1997, p. 180).
Assessments are a critical component of occupational therapy practice, as they provide the foundation for developing effective intervention plans tailored to meet the needs of each individual client. In this essay we shall be looking at the patient Doris Whiley and creating her assessment plan. Occupational therapists will use a variety of assessments to gather comprehensive information about a client's physical, cognitive, emotional, and social functioning. This is so we can accurately assess Doris’s strengths, challenges, and goals. The assessment plan for Doris will include both standardised assessment and non-standardised assessments after the fall at her residence.
Through the use of the Occupational Therapy’s Framework an occupational therapy practitioner is able to evaluate teachers to identify how lack of knowledge and training affects teachers’ well-being in the area of occupation, resulting in lack of rest and poor sleep habits due to stress. The teacher’s job performance is affected by lack of training and feeling inadequately prepared to teach their students with disabilities. A stressful environment in place of employment could result in loss of sleep, a decrease in health, poor job performance and loss of financial income (AOTA, 2014). When teachers display negative attitude regarding inclusion classroom the teachers’ action and behavior of how he/she treat students with disabilities could affect
According to Aas & Bonsaksen (2022), while occupational therapists are built on valuing and focusing on the occupation-based practice approach, they seem to spend less time on it and more time on impairment-based practices due to several barriers to the occupation-based approach. Occupational therapists' roles are to encourage and promote health and well-being through occupation-based practices for everyday occupations that are meaningful to the client and to provide the occupational therapist with an understanding and perspectives that will help contribute to the participation of the persons, the groups, and the populations for occupational engagement (Boop et al., 2022). According to Aas & Bonsaksen (2022), this study was cross-sectional on occupational therapists. The participants were occupational therapists, and the questionnaire was based on what was meant by occupations and occupation based through open-based questions. The study found that occupational therapists self-reported high levels of occupation-based practice daily.
The first therapies were in the hospital and then they were done in the house. In the rehabilitation process after a stroke, the work of the occupational therapist and the occupational therapy assistant is of paramount importance in order to integrate the patients to the Activity of Daily Livings, such as: feeding, dressing, bathing, toileting, hygiene. Occupational Therapy treats the patient by the use of constructive activity in a simulated, normal living and/or working situation…Constructive activity is the keynote of occupational therapy”… (Heidi Mc Hugh Pendleton & Winifred Schultz-Krohn,
Occupational Therapy began to be widely accepted after the effects of occupation were seen first hand during World War I. and intrigued by the mind-body connection as well as the importance of human activity and occupation in maintaining mental and physical well-being. At the same time, my desire to work directly with people and be able to make a positive and lasting change to their lives by empowering them and helping discover their strengths and confidence in themselves to achieve their goals, led me to a realization that a career in occupational therapy would be a perfect fit for me. To me occupational therapy is a dynamic, rewarding, challenging, and inspiring field where I can fully realize my skills and knowledge. Having always been a firm believer in the patient-centric approach, I am passionate about providing excellent service to patients by improving their performance, preventing illness and disability and promoting adaptation to life
Becoming an occupational therapist is my passion and my long-term career goal. Since a young age I have been incredibly inspired and motivated to befriend and help disabled individuals. Having grown up with a disabled mother who benefited from the services of occupational therapy I had the opportunity to see first hand how the experience gave can give individuals like her fulfilling and productive lives. With both parents working as healthcare professionals, including my mother who is now an occupational therapist herself, I see every day how rewarding the field is. Through my life I have had unique personal, professional and educational experiences that have shaped me into a strong candidate for an advanced education in occupational therapy.
My goals for the future revolve around what I believe will help both myself become successful, and also how the people around me will be positively influenced. As a caring, positive, helpful person, I have always dreamed of being an Occupational Therapist, and hopefully specializing in pediatrics in the future. At the University of Minnesota, I plan to take advantage of one of the greatest programs for Occupational Therapy in the nation. To get there, I plan on focusing on my studies in my undergraduate years by majoring in Psychology or something revolved around Rehabilitative Therapy. Since the University of Minnesota is tier one research institution, I plan on taking advantage of the many opportunities to conduct and learn from important
