Animal testing for cosmetic products and substances should be banned completely because of the outcomes the animals experience after testing is completed. People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals writes, “ … This test may cause guinea pigs’ skin to become itchy, inflamed, ulcerated, or otherwise painful as a result of an allergic reaction (“Skin Sensitization Testing” par. 1). This suggests that the guinea pigs lost their ability to function properly after testing was completed. The guinea pigs don’t just indulge pain from the experiments, but they are left with physical damage to the body for the rest of their lives until they are put down. The injuries the animals received from the testing also makes it almost impossible for them to be placed in a home (1). In other words, Murnaghan believes animals that survive testing would not have the ability to live in a home environment after experiencing daily laboratory existence. The animals are so severely hurt after testing that people do not want to house them, but there is still a minority of places that would. Animals that were used for testing do not have the mental and physical stability to live freely. Typically for this reason the animals instead are euthanized after testing and do not get the opportunity to live a healthy, normal life cycle. According to The Humane Society of the United States, “At the end of a test the animals are killed, normally by asphyxiation, neck-breaking, or decapitation. Pain relief is not provided” (“Fact Sheet:Cosmetic Testing” par. 6). This demonstrates that when animal testing is completed the test subjects are not given any medicine to relieve the pain they had just endured.
