The Pros And Cons Of Animal Testing

971 Words4 Pages

Animals are killed so people can have things that do not work and they most likely don’t need. There is something incredibly unbelievable on how animals are treated as none other than test dummies. These animals are treated horribly, and some still seem to turn a blind eye to it. Testing on animals, whether it be for cosmetics, medical research, or personal reasons, is unethical and awful. Animal testing should be outlawed because most animal tests are not regulated by law to protect the animals, thousands of labs are cruel and inhumane to innocent animals, and several harmless alternatives exist.

First, most animal tests that happen in the United States are not inspected or regulated by law. The AWA (Animal Welfare Act) was created and …show more content…

In vitro testing is an example of an effective alternative. It can be used with actual human cell tissue, which is more accurate the using an animal as a model (NEAVS). This is important to the argument because it shows testing without animals is possible and works. Next, computer models could be used for an alternatives, because a computer can be modeled after the human body and be programmed to react like the human body (NEAVS). Computer models are significant because they can eliminate animals for testing, and they are more accessible and easy to use. Microdosing is also another good example of a way to test a method or product without severely affecting life. Microdosing is giving a very small amount of the substance to a person, but only enough to affect the body on the cell level, not doing anything to the whole system. This alternative is a great idea because it uses a human instead of an innocent animal and no living thing will have to suffer. To sum up, alternatives to animal tests are effective and do not cause harm to any living …show more content…

Another argument is animals are not inhumanely abused in labs because in some labs medicines are screened before injecting or force feeding, doses given to animals are only toxic to them if given a high amount, and sometimes medicine is given to people first, then tested on animals to see what went wrong (understandinganimalresearch). Inhumane means without sympathy, and force injection and feeding is not done with sympathy. Also, the labs who test on animals make no effort to have compassion for the animals scared or lonely mental state. Lastly, people argue that animal testing is effective because animals can suffer from a similar disease that can also develop in people (animalreasearch.info). This is not significant because it is on a very rare occasion an animal can have the same disease as a person, and it is virtually impossible for the two diseases to be the exact same. In conclusion, the bad factors of animal testing outweigh the
