When students see that you show interest towards them and care about their education, then they develop more interest to learn. Mr. Van Dyck connects with individual students by taking interest in them, he challenges himself to find a special interest in each one of them, and he also find ways in which he can see himself in them. Through learning activity 1, children can think about not only their own family structure also others who are participating in the group as well as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, gives opportunity to understand and respect the others that sit equally beside ways of being, knowing and doing. It encourages children to create an attitude and willingness to explore differences in individual and different values, beliefs and practices. According to Green (Green, 2001), children are naturally curious and interested in the differences and therefore it is important to explore their questions with simple answers to assist them to redefine themselves and their place in the world. Although it can be difficult for teachers to make time to do something new in the classroom, it is never impossible to try. Students need teachers that care enough to teach to the best of their ability, not just teach the standards and get by. In the chapter “How Engaged and Alive We Can All Be!” Jeffrey D. Wilhelm states that, “with some simple reframing (of curriculum into inquiry, of teaching for engaged transaction instead of information transmission), we can meet our students’ basic human needs for motivation, accomplishment, community, and much more” (Wilhelm 14-15). This idea can not be stressed enough.
The bell for lunch rang and I got ready to walk to her classroom. As I walked into her classroom, I was pleasantly greeted with a warm smile. I was still nervous. She “there 's nothing to be worried about, I just have a question,” she began telling me my peers have noticed my activeness within the student body.
I enjoy discussing things in class. It allows me to have people consider my thoughts and point of views. I challenge myself to be as open-minded as possible. This can be challenging at some points, but nevertheless, I enjoy communicating with my classmates. I enjoy reading and would undeniably place it in my top five things to do.
Students may choose how much time to spend on either one of these categories, depending on their tastes or preferences, opportunity costs, and priorities. During my pursuit of a higher education, the constraints and responsibilities I had, required me to invest a significant amount of my time on activities related to academics. For example, if I had the choice of studying an additional hour for a test or attending a school sponsored event, I would select the first option. Engagement can lead to greater student teacher interactions but it can also help teachers identify barriers to education that the student is encountering.
If the teacher speaks every time, students won’t learn anything because we are telling them how to solve and work on the word problem. If the students work and we assist them through question, they will understand how to solve the problem. In my first year of teaching, I was talking and giving students everything they needed to know. In this new school year, I will take my students and use the real world activities. For example: Let the students walk around and use the materials to measure the things they see in their campus.

A good way I saw a teacher trying to keep her students engaged was giving them a time limit for how long they had to do the assignment before they had to present their results or move on to the next activity. I observed a kindergarten class and they are always changing activities to keep the students involved and entertained. I observed two classes that sang songs about the day, month, and year at the beginning of class. One of the classes I observed even used sign language as they sang the songs.
The students were productively engaged during the lesson plan and learning process.
