A collaborative effort between the police and the community that identifies problems of crime and disorder and involves all elements of the community in the search for solutions to these problems is community policing; it is relatively new approach to law enforcement. However, this definition falls short to sufficiently obtain all the different perspectives of community policing. There are five core police functions; it is all functions related with the statewide requirement to obey the laws and support them, the stoppage of crime, the investigation of crimes and the capture of offenders, ensuring domestic peace and tranquility, and providing local communities, states, and the nation with necessary enforcement linked services. There must be a settled participation between the police officers and the neighborhood. Without confidence and engagement of the neighborhood and efforts at community policing will be unsuccessful. Effectual community policing claims a continual responsibility from everyone participating. Developing affiliations must be stable and upheld. Community policing is making clear that the correct people are leading the program. The center of attraction should be of bettering the neighborhood and not utilizing the project to forward their own individual occupation and schedules. In addition, projects like community policing can be restraining; frequently, when there is a bad situation that involves assistance from the neighborhood is appears like the similar people usually are the ones who help during that time of need.
