Stand Firm On the Grounds We Have Gun control has been an issue for many years, each side trying to prove their argument. Reading through different articles, essays and point of views, really re-enforced what I already believe. There are some like Mark Nuckolus that cogitate that having stricter gun laws will reduce violent crime. Then again there are others that believe reduction in the death toll from firearms will come from enforcing the laws we already have in place. I believe there are several different factors that need to be considered. First, we need to acknowledge that criminals do not get their guns through legal venues. Second, we need to understand that more gun laws will not affect criminals, but may help with other related deaths in this manner. Finally, we need to make sure that we are enforcing the gun laws that already exist, because continuing to make more laws that we will not enforce does nothing to decrease the amount of deaths due to gun related activity …show more content…

They purchase weapons through other delinquents that have the serial numbers and identifying marks removed from them. Offenders will always be able to get guns even if all of the law abiding citizens give up their rights to own them. I believe this would reverse the declining gun related deaths. In recent times, the statistics show that we have dropped from 7 people per 100,000 to 3.4 people per 100,000 from 1993 until 2014 (Cooper). The only thing that deters lawbreakers is the penalties that gun laws carry, and our ability to stay firm on those penalties. I believe that this is responsible in part for the drop in violent gun related deaths.
