Introduction: Gun Control Gun Control has been one of the most highly debated topics in America. Candidates always tend to bring it up when they are running for the presidency. It is a topic that has been around since the beginning of America. There are pros and cons no matter which side of the debate you are on. Our 2nd Amendment states that citizens have the right to bear arms. There are those who want this amendment outlawed and there are those who support it completely. Currently there are gun restrictions in place but some say these regulations are not strict enough. Gun supporters have asked for mentally ill people to be known so that they won’t be able to buy weapons. This isn’t fair because no one wants to be called mentally ill. The side effect to this is that less people will want to be treated for their sickness and there would be mentally unstable walking around untreated. If everyone has a gun than everyone is safer is not true. Homes that have guns in them tend to have a higher suicide rate. There is also more of a chance to have your child stumble upon a weapon. Many people are not careful and can accidently fire the weapon inside the house causing property damage or even death. If everyone has a gun than everyone is safer can be scary. Imagine if convicted felons could carry around a gun unchecked? How harmful could that be? Gun Activists state that mass shootings only happen in places that guns aren’t allowed. Mass shootings are like the school shootings of Virginia Tech and Sandy Hook. If you go more in depth, the shooter of Sandy Hook got a gun from his mother’s collection back at his home and she became the first victim. During the Virginia Tech situation, there were armed officers at the location to stop the shooter, yet the shootings were not
