Through this quote we can get a better understanding of Islam and the views of its followers. Islam is always said to be a peaceful religion but fanatical individuals form radical groups and take the teachings and beliefs to another level and construct them to fit with their radicalism. As stated by Laub and Masters “the Islamic State proclaimed itself a caliphate, claiming exclusive political and theological authority over the world’s Muslims.” It is clear that the ultimate goal of ISIS is to gain control of territories in the Middle East and expand to the west to Europe and create a united Muslim state that is ruled under Sharia Law. ISIS is stronger than al-Qaeda at the moment and will only continue to get stronger the longer nothing is done to stop them in their tracks. The United States is leading an airstrike coalition against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, as stated by Laub and Masters “U.S. President Barack Obama’s administration has assembled a coalition of some sixty countries to “degrade and ultimately defeat” the Islamic State. The U.S.-led coalition includes the European Union and several Sunni Arab states. As of mid-May 2015, the coalition had carried out nearly four thousand airstrikes, four-fifths of them by U.S. forces”. Other countries have joined the United States in this coalition, which is major because ISIS cannot be defeated by one country; all the help possible is needed. Airstrikes were the go-to way to fight ISIS; it was he first course of action taken against the organization. Some feel that more needs to be done, that airstrikes aren’t enough to stop this terror
