American Education System is Focused on Failing the Youth
One of the greatest activist Malcolm X said it well, “Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare today.” Studies suggest that American youths are not given the passport they need for a better tomorrow. Every student deserves to receive a quality education and education is every human beings right, not a privilege. Many developing countries miss that element, but America(punctuation needed) being one of the most developed nation in the world(punctuation needed to make this parenthetical) should not have a problem of uneducated youths, yet it is a national crisis in the United States. The students are thought (this is not the past of teach)to think critically instead of pick the right multiple choice(something is missing here a word or two??) In Finland the education system thrives to teach its students to actually learn and not learn to do well on a standardized test. Standardized tests serve no real purpose other than push (word choice is unusual) students to dislike school, create stress on students to do well on tests and push teachers to teach to the test instead of giving students deeper understanding of the subject. Standardized test determine (SUBJECT VERB AGREEMENT IS WRONG) how much funding a school will receive (your teacher will know this is not true so I would not include this—it shows you do not understand school funding, your topic or both), which leads schools toward the wrong goals; fail to give students a deeper understanding of the subjects he/she is studying—this is a fragment. The teaching profession should be equivalent to a medical or legal profession; unfortunately it is not. Having reliable teachers who know and understand the subjects they are teaching is crucial. Teachers who do not know what he/she is doing end up confusing the students. In Finland, teachers are well respected similar to a doctor or a lawyer. One has to pass multiple investigations before certified to become a teacher. Due to the high aspiration to have a teaching career, it is a competitive field only ten percent of the applicants are accepted. In the U.S you are required to have a college degree to become a teacher, but some teachers are not fit to be in classrooms. A thrift background check needs to be done before someone becomes a teacher. Some schools hire unqualified and none passionate teachers. When the school funds are cut by the government, teachers are obligated to teach a subject they are not licensed to. This causes extreme stress, and makes it an undesirable profession. Not only do teachers have to stay up late creating lessons and grading, they have to be in school early, and deal with poorly behaved children. Teachers have to take classroom time to discipline those students which can be very stressful for them. Teachers have a great deal of responsibility, yet they are under paid.
