Atomic Bomb Thesis I personally believe that the idea of the atomic bombs being necessary to be used on Japan during WWII is completely wrong. I think this way because through the eyes of many soldiers and powerful leaders themselves, Japan was ready to surrender and couldn't continue to fight. The Japanese were willing to negotiate with the allies with certain conditions regarding their emperor. And finally, the bombs themselves weren't even dropped on any military bases or threats to the United States army and instead on cities in Japan. The dropping of the bomb didn't seem to be used as a military weapon but more of a psychological weapon. So no, the bomb was not needed in the defeat of Japan because they were already seen as defeated and …show more content…
The Japanese proposed the idea, “to surrender as long as assurance was given concerning the fate of the emperor.” Japan was ready to end the war knowing the security of their emperor. Instead of taking the agreement, the United States turned this down and instead gave the myth that the only way to end the war was to have an invasion or drop the bomb, a myth that carried on many years after the war, with American citizens not knowing the true story and believing what they did was their only option.
My final piece of evidence is how the bomb was dropped. We all know that the first bomb was dropped on Hiroshima and the second on Nagasaki. But were these two locations really necessary? The answer to that is no. Dropping the bomb on the innocent civilians did ultimately end the war but using these locations in the final decision had no purpose other than to bring fear to the Japanese people. The bomb could have been dropped on military bases or any sort of threat to the Americans that would have benefited them more if the Japanese decided to still retaliate or continue fighting. Once again, the bomb was used as a psychological move to also be shown to the Soviets so they know the power America holds. Japan was already defeated and only would have taken a matter of weeks for the war to be over but still insisted on dropping the devastating and inhumane bomb to the defenseless Japanese
