The Three Challenges
The high-quality education offered in American colleges and universities is rated one of the best in the world. Consequently, the number of international students taking their studies in America has increased rapidly and changed the dynamic of the campuses and colleges in the entire country. To help the students adapt to the American Education System, universities have opened dedicated international student centers and have designated staff to work individually with students from other nations. Despite these new developments, international students continue to face unique challenges as they adjust to their new environment. This essay highlights three such issues and gives advice on how the challenges can be overcome.

From my experience, participation in class is required unlike in my home country where students are expected to remain quiet during the class and listen to the teacher. The American classroom is interactive. According to Kurucz (p.12) the level of participation for students is also a factor that influences their grades. This culture translates into the free opinion society of the people of America and democracy. For me, it’s hard to express my opinions openly, especially when I do not know the right word to describe a particular act or feeling. Scholars suggest that students suffering from language should seek additional classes to improve their knowledge of English.
