NBC’s hit sitcom Seinfeld (1989-1998) identifies primary aspects of emotional intelligence and fluid intelligence through leading characters Elaine Benes (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) and George Costanza (Jason Alexander). Emotional intelligence is one’s ability to control their impulses, urges, and other emotional factors, as well as identifying these aspects in others (Grison et al., 2015). Elaine Benes is a successful woman in the work place; however, unsuccessful with her love life. She has a tendency to scrutinize her partners, she is overly confident, and extremely passionate. Kramer (Michael Richards) keeps himself busy setting up a driving station on the beach, pitching the balls into the ocean. Benes has to cope with Testikov’s bad temper when he throws her new electronic organizer out of their limousine window, hitting an innocent bystander (Carol Kane) in the head. Benes attempts to record Testikov’s confession of throwing the organizer out of the window, so that the innocent bystander is reimbursed for her medical expenses. According to Caruso et al.’s “Special Issue on Emotional Intelligence,” EI is the capability to distinguish another’s emotions and react to them effectively (2016). When Testikov abruptly throws Elaine’s electronic organizer out of the limousine window, she is calm under pressure, showing that she possesses high emotional intelligence (EI). Therefore, instead of reacting to the aggressive action with more aggression, she develops a plan to repay the innocent victim for her incidental medical expenses. Studies have been founded that middle aged women possess higher emotional intelligence than men, and women who are younger (Cabello et al., 2016). Consequently, as a respected member of the publishing community, Elaine consistently is confronted with demanding situations in the workplace. In order to maintain admiration from her colleagues, Elaine handles conflict appropriately; which is how she was appointed with opportunity to publish Testikov’s work in the first place.
