In today’s society, the ability to write is of utmost importance since it is necessary for multiple forms of communication. Writing through text messages, emails, blogs, and all social media sites allow me to share messages with numerous people today than in times past. Moreover, correct grammar and punctuation are not usually practiced on social media, but they are a very important part of writing. With so much practice daily, why do I find writing frightening and what do I hope to achieve through improvement? Moreover, what are the positive results of writing well personally and professionally?
Beginning to write is something that is frightening, although once I decide how to start, it always seems to flow easier. One of my biggest fears is a lack of knowledge relating to research. From my high school days some 35 years ago, little research was required to complete a research paper or to write freely about a given topic. A particular topic was assigned; students researched the topic briefly in an encyclopedia and then wrote perhaps a page about that topic. Some emphasis, although very little, was placed on referencing articles and documentation. By venting on paper instead of verbally, I relieve the frustration that I feel, but also give myself time to reassess the situation.
