Does science disprove God's existence?
As Neil deGrasse Tyson stated, ”The good thing about science is that it’s true whether or not you believe in it.” A very controversial debate exists in today's world: Can science prove or disprove the existence of God? This discussion involves the topics of religion and science. Can these two contrasting viewpoints coincide? Many argue that these two matters should be kept separate, for they serve different purposes. However, some say that science can disprove the legitimacy of religion, pointing to fallacies in their doctrines.
First, science holds true only evidence that has been scrutinized and proven by the scientific method. The idea of “God” exists merely by faith. There is no real evidence known by humans that points to the existence of God. Throughout time gods have been created time and time again to make sense of what science could not yet explain. There is one theory that stands stands as being the most popular among scientists. The Big Bang theory states that our universe was created out of nothing approximately 13.82 billion years ago. It has since been expanding to create the universe. Scientists can predict what might have happened during the Big Bang to fractions of a second before the explosion but not until the beginning. The question is, what was the something in the beginning that created the universe? From a point of view of the Catholic Church, it was God that was there and created the universe.
