Too Much Technology?
Most parents of the average American student are aware of the emergence of technology in public schools. These parents can become concerned with the impact a technology central world will have on their child and the way they develop. In Eliana Dockterman's article published in TIME magazine on August 19, 2013, she addresses the concerns of most American parents by appealing to their sense of logic. Facts and statistics used to back up Dockterman's claims about both technology's damaging and beneficial sides are there to tell parents that technology should be used in moderation. Along with logic, Dockterman compares the pros and cons of technological use.

In Dockterman's article, she reassure both sides of the situation by providing facts about the benefits of technology, and the damaging side of it. She uses the credibility of Anthropologists, fellow authors, institutional studies, and even a school principal. Dockterman goes to justify the use of technology for education by pointing out a research done by Massachusetts Institute of Technology showing which way students absorb information more, with technological use being the top percentage. She also refers to the "decades of studies" that show negative results, like violence and obesity, from binge watching television. By putting all of this information side by side, Dockterman shows the good and bad outcomes of technological use. It could open the minds of some parents who are skeptical about technological use for their child, but it could also teach another parent about how too much technology can negatively impact their student.
