People suffer traumatic memory loss worldwide. Memory loss comes in many different forms and types. Amnesiac problems can be acute or one might experience a total loss of memory. The type of issues one may have depends on the type of injury or trauma one endured. It is even possible to have a global amnesia issue if a vascular disease occurred and spread rapidly. Most often amnesia is thought of to be hysterical, like often shown in movies, where as in reality hysterical amnesia is actually fairly rare. Any damage to the brain or psychological trauma causes amnesia. Some of the many causes of amnesia are substance abuse, brain injuries, and excessive stress. Stress and excess worrying can be tough on the brain. When you are tense and your mind is over stimulated or distracted, one 's ability to remember can suffer. (Morgan n.p.). Stress only causes small amounts of damage to the brain’s memory functions but, long-term memory is still a possibility. (Spiers 1). Usually stress enhances a memory issue or disease one might already have, (Spiers 5 ). Sleep deprivation does not affect one’s retrograde memory functions but, it can affect one’s ability to make new information stick, which is call anterograde memory. Lack of sleep can cause the brain to weaken and can lead to fatigue. (Morgan n.p.). Amnesia can be extremely destructive, not only to the person experiencing it, but also to the person’s family, friends, doctors, therapist, everyone involved goes through an irritating and frustrating time. One who abuses drugs and alcohol are liable to experience confusion and memory loss issues. Direct injuries to the brain can cause many different types of amnesia, including: retrograde, anterograde, acute, or total memory loss. Stress is a little known cause of amnesia that can be short or long-term. Amnesia has numerous causes. Specific causes of memory loss/amnesia are substance abuse, brain injuries, and
