Trends and Outlooks for College Graduates According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor (2018), the employment of accountants is expected to increase 10 percent from 2016 to 2026; due to globalization which creates a high demand for accountants to tend to the growing economy. There is also a larger demand for public accountants to handle financial records. Technological advances are likely to influence the function of accountants over the next 10 years; while some regular accounting tasks may become systematized, this will not reduce the demand for accountants (Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor [BLS], 2018). Accountants with specialized recognition, like the Certified Public Accountants, have the best outlooks; graduates who have a master’s degree in accounting have an advantage in career opportunities (BLS, 2018).
