The first glimpse I had of the city of New Orleans was from literature. I remember sitting down with my mother at our nightly story time and hearing about a place filled with culture and tradition. The city seemed almost fantastic to me. When I learned about Tulane University, this mythical city became a reality. This was a place of discovery, opportunity, and above all, a place filled with endless stories waiting to be told. The English Department of Tulane would give me the opportunity to work with accomplished professors to explore my passions. The English department would not force me to stay confined to a small subject matter, but rather give me the opportunity to explore all different kinds of literature and courses. The Tulane Center for Public Service would allow me to continue making meaningful contributions to my community. In particular, the For the Children Program would allow me to continue this meaningful outreach with children. New Orleans is a place filled with strength and never ending stories following Hurricane Katrina. I would love nothing more than to have the opportunity to help these people as well as be able to learn from them.
