When you're taken away from your family, your life, the people you love to unwillingly fight for your life, you need to be ready for anything, ready to do anything, ready to fight whoever you may cross on your path. That is the Hunger Games. A novel by Suzanne Collins. In this novel, twenty-four tributes from twelve different districts are pulled out of their average lives to try to survive in the 74th annual Hunger Games. This story tells Katniss Everdeen's perspective on the Hunger Games, accompanied by Peeta Malard, who is also from District 12. These teenagers fight for their lives to survive, because only one tribute can survive. A theme in the Hunger Games is the value of life, and people either value or devalue human life. Every year, twenty four children are nominated to compete in the Hunger Games, and in the end, only one child survives. Katniss is worrying about living while eating at the table. He is realizing that in the end, only one is going to live. “Did it give them hope, or simply add to their terror when they saw the reality of twenty-four tributes circled together, knowing only one could live?” (pg. 87) In the text, it explains that there are twenty four tributes total now, but once the games are finished, only one will survive.
