Juliet’s cousin, Tybalt, is one person who is responsible for the death of Romeo and Juliet. Therefore, Tybalt should be given death for his actions in Romeo and Juliet First, Tybalt was the aggressor for the entire story. He started fights and killed multiple people throughout the story. For example, the very first scene of the story is Tybalt starting a fight, setting up all the the events of the play. When facing off with Benvolio, he yells, “What, drawn, and talk of peace? I hate the word as I hate hell, all Montagues and thee. Have at thee, coward!” (Shakespeare 1.1.72-74). This exchange between the Capulet and the Montagues inevitably led to the death of Romeo and Juliet because it pushed the prince to be angry enough to ban the next person to fight in public. …show more content…
This is shown when after Tybalt kills Mercutio, Romeos hand is forced and he exacts his revenge on Tybalt. After Romeo kills him, the Prince states, “And for that offense, immediately we do exile him hence.” (Shakespeare 3.2.202-203). This of course refers to the fact that because of Tybalt and Romeos battle, Romeo will be banished from Verona, inevitably causing the events in the fourth and fifth act to transpire. Lastly, if Tybalt left Romeo alone after the party, all would have been well. But instead, he decided to pursue Romeo just for showing up. If he didn’t do this, the lovers would have gotten married and most likely have a happy ending. In act one scene five Tybalt shows his genuine hate for the Montagues by saying, “Patience perforce by willful choler meeting makes my flesh tremble in their different greeting.
