UC Personal statement
Coming from a independent and determined family isn’t easy. I play the role of the sample setter for my siblings. Being the oldest of three, I am considered the leader and the role model. My family hasn’t had anybody go to college, so that will make me the first to attend college and make a difference. The path is going to be set by showing how to be successful and achieve their goal.
I show my siblings how to be determined by taking failure and turning it into a positive instead of a negative. I have failed many times in my life being an athlete. Learning from failure by understanding why I failed and knowing what my mistake was. In my life I have faced many challenges but there is two challenges I went through that have changed me and reshaped me to the person I am today. When i was young i faced the hardest challenge a kid can face which was moving into a new school and being the new kid that changed into more of a nightmare for me. This was very difficult for me because I was never really the talkative kid nor the outgoing kid who can just make new friends. When I went to first day of school at my new school I got very nervous and felt so out of place that I just bursted into tears and didn’t feel comfortable being there. This had just made things worse for me being the new kid and now being the laugh of the campus having this outburst in the middle of class. In order to overcome this challenge i had to change my whole attitude and become a talkative more outgoing kid in school which was challenging.
