UTAS has numerous awards that are eligible for employees. Awards of small value consist of STAR awards, which are given by employees to other employees to the value of $25; these are typically gift certificates to any vendor on the UTAS gift certificate vendor list.
Firstly, the STARS program is a way to support employees in living the everyday core competencies that recognize, reward and reinforce the specific behaviors that demonstrate values and foster a culture of recognition. The goal of the STARS program is simple, to create a consistent, company-wide recognition program that enables peers to recognize, motivate and inspire their colleagues.
UTAS defines (citation needed) recognition as acknowledging employees actions, behaviors or performances that go above and beyond a meaningful, genuine way. It’s an event, not just an award. In other words, “it’s the praise, not the prize”. It was created to recognize employees that demonstrate dedicated commitment to serving the customers of UTAS. Award applications are based on nominated employee’s degree of personal commitment and leadership, resulting in superior customer satisfaction. Anyone can nominate an individual for the Wings of Excellence award. A selection committee consists of a chairperson for the wings of excellence, representatives from each value stream and the Human Resources organization.
