Learning Auto Biography

For the early part of my adult life I was a stay at home parent who occasionally provided childcare for friends and family. When my youngest child went to kindergarten, I obtained a part time job at Target, working at the customer service desk. I was responsible for merchandise sales and returns, answering phones and addressing customers’ questions, complaints, cash register operation and money handling. The school year came to an end and I resigned from Target to spend the summer with my children. I attended the Southern Ohio College and took the courses necessary to apply for licensure. I took the exam for state licensure in early summer, 2002; the exam consisted of two parts, Real Estate Law and Principles of Real Estate. Due to diligent preparation, I passed the licensure exam with ease. A REALTOR must operate under a licensed broker. After a few meetings and thorough research, I concluded America’s First Choice was a good fit for me. My career as a licensed REALTOR consisted of seller and buyer representation, contract negotiation, adherence to Real Estate laws and Ethical principles, marketing, and providing my clients access to reputable vendors. To be successful and act in my client’s best interest, it was necessary to have a thorough understanding of the services provided by related vendors; therefore, knowledge of the current loans available to clients, interest rates, home inspections, appraisal, and home warranties was essential. Licensed REALTORs must belong to the National Association of REALTORs and the Ohio Association of REALTORs. These organizations require that you adhere to a professional code of ethics and complete continuing education post licensure. Basic math skills were utilized daily; for example, mortgage payment estimates, interest rates, and commission percentages were calculated frequently. Bellacino’s was a local Italian restaurant that would only deliver to businesses and the hours and tips were hard to pass up. My responsibilities consisted of food preparation and delivery, customer interaction, and money handling. Working at Bellacino’s improved my verbal and written communication skills, time management, and conflict resolution. I used basic math skills such to calculate payments, the customer’s change, and tip percentages. I spent a large amount of my day delivering to hospitals and medical offices. Interacting with nurses during deliveries sparked an old desire I had to go to nursing school. Every day on my drive home a passed school and won day noticed the sign stating that they now offered an LPN program in the evening.
