Learning Journal Unit 5 – Business Ethics The article I picked for this learning journal discusses Amazon and how it, apparently, tend to position its own products and those of its FBA (fulfilled by Amazon) partners on tops of the search listings. A point worth mentioning is that all these FBA partners pay a fee to amazon for their use of the American e-commerce giant’s services and warehouse. The fact is that for themselves as well as for their paying-partners, the delivery costs (if any) are not taken into account to appear on top of the search results. Therefore given them a higher chance to stand upfront and consequently to be more regularly consulted and bought for anyone who does not know how to properly research a website or to make use of the available options. The thing is, most products on Amazon are worth buying from Amazon or its partners only if you decide to subscribe to the Amazon Prime program. Everyone should receive similar fighting chances, at least according to the values I have in mind. Additionally, can we really consider it fair and morally adequate to provide the customers (not part of the Amazon Prime program) with a search list of products, at first glance, that are neither the cheapest nor those with the best reviews? For what I can tell, it is not! For it is a harm to both some retailers and direct customers who may (or not) be directly attracted by the first goods they see advertised and not pay attention to further items on the listing. Now, those “forgotten” retailers are quite hurt by this practice since they may encounter substantial losses from all the potential clients they will more than occasionally
