Near the end of my first year at C-TEC I got employed by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 683 and started working the summer
As a teaching assistant, I aided the professor during laboratory sessions and taught undergraduate students to use SPSS. Along with this, I maintained three hours each week for tutoring hours, during which students were provided with further assistance and clarification regarding challenging material and misconceptions. Further, I led a compact lecture to a class of undergraduate
This position provided me with the opportunity to affect positive change for two student populations with distinct needs: Long Term English Learners and English Learners who received special education services. During my tenure, I led teachers of ELs in analyzing CST and Periodic Assessment data in English Language arts and Mathematics, identifying the appropriate ELD and Access-to-Core/SDAIE strategies to meet students needs, through lesson/strategy study cycles. Through lesson study and coaching conversations with teachers, Monroe’s EL subgroup achieved a 38-point increase on the CST ELA during the 2012-2013 school year, surpassing its AYP targets for math and English Language Arts for this subgroup. While an impressive achievement, the students’ success reflected the underlying mandate to provide rigorous content to all ELs with fidelity to SDAIE and Access to Core strategies by teachers and the professional understanding that we are a team of teachers working together each day to impact student
I have participated in Faculty Development for almost five years. I have applied Outcomes-based Practices, Learning-Centered Strategies, Alternative Delivery Methods, and Student Assessment to my courses, making every effort to ensure my students’ success. In 2014, I attended Valencia College’s Destination: Great Teachers in Action and hope to be there again this summer. In 2012 and 2015, I was awarded Valencia College’s Russia Summer Institute, and The Chesley G. MaGruder Foundation & First Union National Bank of Florida Humanities Fellowship. These awards, along with attending College Art Association’s 2015 annual meeting, have helped me to stay current in my field and bring a global perspective to my
As I sit in the basement of the Lilly Library, surrounded by friends who have become family in a few short months, covered in calculus and EQ notes, and listening to some Duke Ellington jazz music for my Music 101 class, I can’t help but reflect on what this year has meant to me and my development as a student, athlete, brother, friend, and person. I entered Wabash College not exactly sure what to expect; I knew it was going to be different, but I also knew that with change I wanted to keep an open mind that was ready to learn and grow. Freshman tutorial and especially enduring questions are two classes that have pushed my boundaries as a person, forcing me to question core beliefs and ideas that seemed previously engrained in my mind. Throughout
He directly speaks about past teachers and experiences with education he's had, and his hopes for future teachers. Since this speech went viral and got positive feedback from many, it is effective in reaching the intended audience, and has potential to create a true change in how teachers treat their students and the education system. Livingston presents a call to action for teachers and future teachers to help their students reach their full potential, help them with their obstacles, and foster equality in the classroom.
Upon beginning my first class at Walden University, it has been difficult to see myself getting through this 8-week course. Furthering my education has been something I have struggled to accomplish for the last 4 years. I almost decided to give up and continue being just a high school teacher. However, being a senior teacher that motivates my students to go above an beyond to reach their goal has pushed me to work hard and start a new journey. Though it is only the beginning of my journey, I can see graduation.
All along, I have managed to maintain the principles of ethics and integrity, a strong sense of purpose, and morality, which binds me rigidly. Appointment as student leader in all stages of my school and college life has presented me with opportunity to interact with people, develop organizational and communication skills. My involvement with speech, debate and sports has made me more than just an academic person In the pursuit of excellence and with a passion to reach the highest skills in my discipline, I look upon University of Texas, Arlington a springboard to accomplish my dreams. This esteemed institution can serve as a ladder and enable me to achieve higher aims by providing me the most contemporary input and exposure.
Thank you for taking the time to consider my application for the doctoral program at Florida Atlantic University. My interest in education began at a young age out of necessity. My upbringing was humble, and I was fortunate to have a healthy environment conducive to my education. However, that was the extent of my parents’ support.
Membership in Ball State University's Honors College presents an opportunity for me to be surrounded by peers who share a similar commitment to academic excellence. I am eager to build beneficial connections with like-minded students who take their education seriously. Furthermore, I look forward to interacting with professors who will challenge me to grow to my full potential. I believe that this stimulating and rigorous academic environment will push me to excel academically and personally.
Box 1 – The College of Liberal Arts at Temple has been a great conduit for providing opportunities for my intellectual and professional development. First and foremost, I feel extremely privileged to be part of Temple’s CLA Honors Program due the outstanding faculty, both teaching and administrative. I again feel lucky to have been exposed to several fantastic clubs and organizations, such as the Temple Economics and Political Science societies, that pertain to my fields of study. I’ve also been afforded possibilities to attend lectures given by prominent academics and scholars, in particular the talks given by Professor Joseph Schwartz on political theory. Learning from the exceptional professors and commingling and collaborating with other
The moment of conception is the moment a life starts... a heart being formed 20 days after conception. So if you decide to terminate your pregnancy, is that really killing of an innocent life even if the baby hasn't been born and taken it's real first breathe? Technically speaking, yes, getting an abortion is the act of killing a life, but in some cases it’s safer for the female to get one, than go through with the whole pregnancy. Going through with a pregnancy could sometimes be fatal to the person carrying the child, if they have high blood pressure risks, cancer, std/aids, etc.
I want to apply to NYU mainly for its excellent math major, which I will apply to, and support on entrepreneurship. The Courant Institute of Mathematics provides great supports to students both in academics and activities. For competitions, I want to attend the Putnam Competition in college and NYU has sufficient resources to help students perform well in Putnam Competition from its high ranking in the contest. Also, I hope that I can find some math major people to communicate with besides classes.
Going forward a liberal arts education will be key for me to attain my goals. Specifically a Hollins liberal arts education. I am interested in pursuing pre-law, creative writing, art, and equine studies. At a typical technical based studies program I would be unable to study and learn what I 'm passionate about. It has been said that if you choose a job you love you will never have to work another day, and I fully intend to live my life with zeal doing what I love and am truly passionate about, and a liberal arts education will help me achieve that.
However, I now have a new perception and appreciation for professors and teaching assistants. It takes a great extent of work and time to put together a large lecture style course. Some of my teaching assistant duties included taking attendances and grading quizzes, test, or papers. I did not realize how much time it went into grading quizzes, test, and papers. Since the tests were composed of a multiple-choice question component in addition to a short essay, I was able to reinforce my past knowledge of concepts and course material when deciding if the essay answers were accurate.
