While researching options for post-secondary education, the University of Victoria immediately stood out to me. The diverse environment, sense of community, dynamic learning and innovation all drew me towards continuing my education at UVic.
Throughout my life, I have experienced a spectrum of mental health issues, both directly and indirectly. These experiences have, in turn, driven my passion for psychology and understanding the human experience. The range of options in terms of degree and program streams that UVic offers provide me with opportunities to explore various principles such as mental health and well-being in depth. The invaluable research community and laboratory facilities at UVic would allow me to further develop an understanding of the disciplines of psychology while collaborating with others. The community connections that the faculty has with local hospitals and schools provide potential for practicum experiences that would allow me to build necessary skills for real world applications. Further, the work study and co-op opportunities that UVic promotes are instrumental and would contribute to the well-rounded education that I strive for.
Furthering my education at UVic would not only benefit me academically, but also personally. Through course unions and student-led clubs at UVic, I would be able to create meaningful connections with like-minded individuals while cultivating a variety of interests. The location of the university in itself creates an extraordinary environment, providing an endless amount of opportunities both in and out of campus. Attending UVic would encourage me to grow as an individual by fostering my independence and expanding my horizons, allowing me to try new things while gaining valuable experience in the
