From my own experience from within the work placement and college I have gained some knowledge on physical development. I have gained knowledge on what the different norms should be on physical development and children who have the correct nutrition complete the norms at the expected rate as they are stronger and their cognitive development also increases if children have the correct nutritional intake that is needed. From experience, I also know that children who consume too much food are unable to do things that children would normally be able to do as they can be overweight, these children get out of breath easily therefore unable to run around the playground well. There are many values and principles that underpin the theme of physical development, for example, it is vital that the children’s needs and interests are put first in order to make practice child centred, this can be done by ensuring that snacks, meals and drinks provided within the setting are healthy and balanced so that children can get the nutrition required to grow and develop correctly. Another value and principle that underpins the chosen theme is is ensuring the welfare and safety of the child, for example, providing the correct nutrition for each individual child is important however, children with allergies, it may be difficult to find alternatives, it is important however that the child does not consume any food or drink that they may be allergic to, this is to keep the child safe, however it may be difficult to find alternative foods for the child that is nutritious and gives the child what they need to grow and develop.
