“Many companies struggle to find enough quality employees to meet their growth requirements” (Wilson, 2005, n.p.). Verizon’s Leadership Development Program is extremely beneficial to the recruitment of quality personnel (Kinicki & Williams, 2013). However, this recruitment has its limits because it selection is derived of single quality “high-performing” college graduates. In my opinion, it would be very difficult for any employer to be guaranteed an exceptional college student alone would make a great asset to their company because they are basing that decisions solely on the academic achievements of the candidate. Recruiting from within saves time and money, as well as insight into the employee’s work ethic and abilities (Kinicki & Williams, 2013). Additionally, if employees tend to see advancement opportunities occurring from within the company, the ones who desire to move up on the company ladder may show greater initiative are productivity with the hope of promotion in the future. Furthermore, hiring within means the employee is already aware of the organizational structure and culture for the company. In other words, you know what you are getting when hiring internally. Moreover, the company could offer referral bonuses for their existing employees (Atkinson, 2011). However, I would add stipulations as to the quality of the applicant and their efficiency and probably incorporate a time frame as to how long they must continue to work there prior to paying out the bonus. As a result, employees may seek out qualified candidates for the company on their own at a much greater expense than hiring a firm or advertising for a
