As demonstrated earlier, and contrary to the reductions and closures of many other retail stores over recent years, Next Plc has continued to expand and adapt to its environment. Three years ago, the branch moved the location of this store to a larger space, recently vacated by the closure of a Tesco Home store. This was a significant decision for the branch to make, as they needed to generate more sales to gain a larger income and remain open- however it appears to have been a success. The opening of the new branch enabled Next Plc to expand and develop their in-store Home department, with this currently residing over the space of two floors. They also decided to collaborate with Costa, meaning they were able to include a coffee shop within the top floor of the new store. Developing effective leadership through talent management programs is significant to furthering the development of an organisation and their employees (Oracle, 2012). With the intention of creating effective leaders, companies need leadership development programs which focus on employee development and succession planning (Ibid). Next Plc applies leadership development methods throughout their departments by ensuring the use of succession planning is effective. By administrating apprenticeship schemes, they manage the individual development of each apprentice.
