Trying to decide what career or job choice you want for your future is a tough decision to make. One day you might want to become a nurse, and the next day, you will want to become a veterinary technician. This is the situation that I went through in the past year, and all I can say is that going to school to become a veterinary technician was the best decision I have ever made regarding my future. I am excited and more ambitious toward my career than I ever have been, and I’m here to tell you why becoming a veterinary technician is an amazing choice to make!
Diversity in individuals is integral in an educational setting in ways that are not always directly visible or perceivable to others around them. These individuals bring experiences, outlooks, talents, and skills that allow for a more enriched and dynamic learning environment and I believe that I can contribute greatly with my own experiences to this shared learning environment. Growing up I was always around animals and because of this my love for animals was fostered on from an early age. Both of my parents are veterinarians, and like many children, my source of inspiration, but because of this it can be difficult to say how much of their influence attributes to my decision to pursue a career in the field of veterinary medicine. Kyler Hicks Veterinary and animal science is a new fully open access publication from Elsevier which strongly encourages a multiple disciplinary approach to research. The scope of journal intentionally broad and includes almost all of the key aspects of animal science, veterinary science and veterinary medicine. Areas of animal science will be considered for publication include: reproduction, breeding, genetics, physiology, nutrition, feed science, meat science, animal welfare, ethics and law, animal behavior, zoo animal management, and livestock management and production.
I have some experience working in an animal hospital as a co-op student, seeing all the different duties of veterinarians and veterinary technicians. I have learned about vaccines, a variety of illnesses, and their treatments. I have been involved in surgeries and dental procedures as well as general appointments with animals and their owners. Moreover, I have a kitten at home that I am solely responsible for. I care for her every day, giving her plenty of attention, love, and endearment.

Imagine, me in a veterinarian hospital holding a baby poodle helping a little girl pick out a pet. The career I am planning on pursuing is a Companion animal Veterinarian. I have chosen this career because I absolutely love animals . I have had a lot of experience with animals because I have had at the least 18 pets in my thirteen years of being alive. Interestingly, I have a dog at home right now and I take good care of him.
Technology is in a constant state of changing, and there is no exception for the Veterinary medicine. Starting in the late 1980s and early 1990s, an increasing number of firms began to offer software targeted for use in veterinary offices.1 (McHaney, 2012) It’s imperative for all Veterinary Practices to stay up to date with technology, not only for effectiveness, but for the fast-paced world we live in. I became aware of their hunger and need for shelter and soon I started providing food for whichever stray animals I crossed paths with. I knew that by giving just one meal I would be giving these animals a chance at survival. After realizing my affection for animals, especially cats, and my need to provide a hand to hold, I knew that veterinary technology was the path for me. This project will provide me with the information I need to know to dive head first into this career. I especially want to know what my educational options are, what a typical day on the job is like, what the future job outlook is, and what pros and cons are to be considered.
